Chapter overview (whole chapter)

Isaiah 51 calls those who follow after righteousness to look to the rock from which they were hewn, to Abraham and Sarah whom God called alone and blessed, and it promises that the Lord will comfort Zion and make her wilderness like Eden. It urges God's people to listen, for a law and judgment shall proceed from Him as a light to the people, and His salvation is near and His arms will judge the peoples. The chapter closes by addressing the afflicted, drunken but not with wine, declaring that the Lord has taken the cup of trembling from their hand and will put it into the hand of those who afflicted them, telling them to awake and stand up.
