Chapter overview (whole chapter)

Isaiah 34 is a prophecy of judgment summoning the nations and the earth to hear, for the Lord's indignation is on all nations and their armies, whom He has delivered to slaughter so that their slain lie unburied and the mountains melt with their blood. It declares that the host of heaven shall dissolve and the heavens roll together like a scroll, and that Edom's streams shall turn to pitch and its dust to brimstone, becoming a haunt of owls, vultures, and wild beasts forever. The chapter closes by urging readers to seek out the book of the Lord and read, where not one of these creatures shall lack a mate, for the Lord's mouth has commanded it and cast the lot for them to possess it forever.
