Hebrews 6 urges believers to leave the elementary doctrines of Christ and press on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance, faith, baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection, and eternal judgment. It solemnly warns that it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who were once enlightened, tasted the heavenly gift, partook of the Holy Spirit, and the powers of the age to come, and then fell away, since they crucify the Son of God afresh. The chapter closes with encouragement from God's promise to Abraham, confirmed by an oath, so that by two immutable things in which God cannot lie believers have strong consolation and a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul that enters within the veil, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner, a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

(1) Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
