(9) But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Ezekiel 20 opens with elders coming to inquire of the Lord, who refuses and instead recounts Israel's long history of rebellion in Egypt and the wilderness, their idolatry, and profaning His Sabbaths. He withheld His fury for His name's sake among the nations, though He purposed judgment. The chapter closes with the promise to gather and purge Israel and a parable of an unquenchable fire consuming the southern forest.
