The Scripture
(26) And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us?
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
In this chapter God tells Moses to take the firstborn of every Israelite, but the Egyptians release theirs, so God sends a plague that kills the firstborn of both peoples. The event shows God's power over Egypt and the seriousness of Israel's covenant. It also highlights the tension between obedience and divine judgment.
