Deuteronomy 9:18
The Scripture
(18) And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

The Israelites are reminded of the covenant God made with them at Sinai and instructed to keep the commandments and follow the way of the Lord. They are warned that if they forget these laws they will fall into sin and be cut off from God's blessings.
