Deuteronomy 28:31
The Scripture
(31) Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof: thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to rescue them.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Deuteronomy 28 sets before Israel the blessings that will overtake them if they obey the Lord-fruitful fields, flocks, and families, victory, and prominence among the nations-and the curses that will pursue them if they disobey. The curses escalate from disease and famine to a siege so severe that parents will eat their children, ending with Israel being scattered among all peoples and even brought back to Egypt in ships. The chapter stands as a sober warning that obedience brings blessing while persistent disobedience brings ruin.
