Deuteronomy 18:14
The Scripture
(14) For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Deuteronomy 18 declares that the Levitical priests have no inheritance among Israel because the Lord Himself is their inheritance, and it lists the portions due to them from the people's offerings. It forbids the abominations of the surrounding nations-divination, witchcraft, and consulting the dead-and promises that the Lord will raise up a Prophet like Moses from among them whom they must heed. The chapter closes by giving the test of a true prophet: if the predicted thing does not come to pass, he has spoken presumptuously and need not be feared.
