Acts 9 records the dramatic conversion of Saul, who was breathing threats against the disciples and headed for Damascus with arrest warrants, when a light from heaven strikes him down and the risen Jesus asks, 'Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?'. Blinded, he is led into Damascus where the Lord sends Ananias to lay hands on him so he may regain his sight and be filled with the Spirit, and after his baptism Saul preaches in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God, confounding the Jews who then plot to kill him. The chapter closes with Peter healing Aeneas the paralytic at Lydda and raising the disciple Dorcas from the dead at Joppa, so that many believed in the Lord, and Peter staying many days with Simon a tanner.
