II Samuel 5:3
The Scripture
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Second Samuel 5 records all the tribes of Israel coming to David at Hebron, acknowledging him as their bone and flesh, and anointing him king over Israel at age thirty, beginning his forty-year reign. He then captures Jerusalem from the Jebusites, establishes it as the city of David, and grows mightier because the Lord God of hosts is with him. After the Philistines hear of his coronation and come against him, David inquires of the Lord twice and defeats them decisively, once at Baal-perazim and once by circling behind them at the sound of marching in the mulberry trees, driving them from Geba to Gezer.
