The Scripture
(19) And Abner also spake in the ears of Benjamin: and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and that seemed good to the whole house of Benjamin.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
As war continued between the houses of Saul and David, Abner quarreled with Ish-bosheth over Rizpah and then defected to David, promising to bring all Israel to him. Joab, seeking revenge for his brother Asahel, treacherously murdered Abner, and David publicly mourned him and cursed Joab's house for the crime.
