The Scripture
(18) And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.

David sinfully ordered a census of Israel and Judah, and as punishment the LORD sent a plague that killed seventy thousand men before David interceded. David then purchased Araunah's threshing floor, built an altar there, and offered sacrifices to stop the plague.
