The Scripture

(12) And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)

Second Kings 7 records Elisha's prophecy that the next day fine flour and barley would sell cheaply in the gate of besieged Samaria, which a skeptical lord scoffs at-only to see it but not eat of it. That night four leprous men at the gate decide to surrender to the Syrian camp rather than starve, and find it deserted because the Lord had made the Syrians hear the sound of a great army and flee, abandoning everything. The people plunder the camp, fulfilling Elisha's word, and the skeptical lord is trampled to death in the gate exactly as the man of God had said.
