Second Corinthians 11 opens with Paul urging the Corinthians to bear with a little of his 'folly,' expressing a godly jealousy to present them as a chaste virgin to Christ and warning that the serpent who beguiled Eve may corrupt them from the simplicity that is in Christ. He defends his apostleship against the 'super-apostles,' noting that he preached the gospel freely and humbled himself so as not to burden them, and he warns that false apostles disguise themselves as ministers of righteousness. The chapter closes with Paul's reluctant 'boasting' as a fool, recounting his Jewish heritage and far greater sufferings—beatings, imprisonments, stonings, shipwrecks, perils, and his daily anxiety for the churches—sealed by God's knowledge that he lies not, and his escape from Damascus in a basket through a window in the wall.
