I Samuel 8:11
The Scripture
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
First Samuel 8 records how Samuel's sons, appointed judges, turned aside after bribes, prompting the elders of Israel to ask for a king so they could be like the other nations. The Lord tells Samuel to grant their request but to warn them solemnly of the rights a king will claim-their sons for his army, their daughters for his service, the best of their fields and flocks, and their own servitude. Despite the warning, the people refuse to listen, so the Lord tells Samuel to make them a king, and Samuel sends them home.
