I Samuel 24:4
The Scripture
(4) And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
While Saul pursued David in the wilderness of Engedi, he entered a cave to relieve himself, not knowing David and his men were hiding within, and David secretly cut off a corner of Saul's robe rather than kill him. David then showed Saul the cut robe as proof of his innocence, and Saul wept and acknowledged that David would surely become king.
