I Samuel 23:12
The Scripture
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
First Samuel 23 records David rescuing the city of Keilah from Philistine raiders after inquiring of the Lord twice, but he learns that the grateful townspeople would hand him over to Saul, so he and his six hundred men withdraw to the wilderness of Ziph. Saul hunts him day after day, but God does not deliver David into his hand, and Jonathan comes to him at Ziph to strengthen his hand in God, renewing their covenant. When the Ziphites offer to betray David, Saul pursues him into the wilderness of Maon, but a Philistine raid forces Saul to break off the chase, and David retreats to the strongholds of En-gedi.
