The Scripture
(2) And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
First Samuel 21 shows the fleeing David arriving at Nob, where the priest Ahimelech-frightened by his sudden arrival-gives him the consecrated showbread to eat since there is no common bread, after confirming his men's purity. David also takes Goliath's sword, which had been kept behind the ephod. He then flees to Achish king of Gath, but when the servants recognize him, David feigns madness-scrabbling on the doors and drooling on his beard-so that Achish dismisses him as a madman.
