I Samuel 18:17
The Scripture
(17) And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD'S battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Jonathan loved David as his own soul and made a covenant with him, giving him his robe and armor, while the women's song praising David above Saul provoked the king's jealousy. Saul repeatedly tried to kill David and eventually gave him his daughter Michal in marriage, hoping the dangerous bride price of Philistine foreskins would cause David's death.
