Chapter overview (whole chapter)

First Chronicles 4 continues the genealogies of Judah, listing the descendants of Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal, and noting the families of the Zorathites and the founders of Bethlehem. It includes the prayer of Jabez, who called on the God of Israel to bless and enlarge him and keep him from harm, and God granted his request. The chapter closes by tracing additional clans of Simeon whose descendants, in the days of Hezekiah, smote the remaining Amalekites and settled in their place.
